Is it too late to learn martial arts?

I%26#039;ve always sort of wanted to learn martial arts, but now I suddenly REALLY want to learn. The problem is, I%26#039;m 14, and I know most people start when they%26#039;re really young. So I want to know, is it too late for me to start learning martial arts? I%26#039;m not planning on getting really good, like a professional or anything, I just want to know some moves.|||no its not too late at all, in fact it might be better, since when younger kids learn they do it more for fun. Since yo are older you will be able to do seriosu things and you will understand more|||14 is a perfect age to start, You are mature enough to have a genuine interest in the things you will be taught. You can intellectualize the concepts being taught and should be able to learn very quickly. Martial Arts can be studied throughout your entire life, age 7 to age 95 +. Try to find a school that will let you watch a class or some classes with out charging you. Watching will help to give you and idea of what kind of person the instructor is. Look for someone that really cares about each individual student. Gets respect from and gives respect to the members of the class. Is humble and lets the students asks questions. Also the instructor should be able to make the class fun. Be careful of hidden fees for anything and everything. You are paying to learn and it should be fun for you. Enjoy your classes because as I said before you can train in martial arts your whole life. It is a wonderful form of whole body physical fitness with many benefits. Self Defense being one.|||It would be a great time for you to learn. Take it from a guy who has taught people from ages 4 through 50+, age doesn%26#039;t matter too much. Actually, I started at age 25, if that helps. I know from what you said that this may not interest you, but it is possible in some schools that you could earn a black belt around the time you graduate high school. But it would be good not to have black belt a goal, but learning as your goal. Don%26#039;t get all caught up in the styles that are out there, but rather look for a good school that teaches what you want to learn. If you want to learn self defense, watch a few classes and see if you like what they are doing. When I did this, I didn%26#039;t like the first school. Didn%26#039;t like the instructor, the people, and was clueless to how the things they were doing were helpful on the street. Tried another school, and liked everything about it. Didn%26#039;t care about the style. Good luck and have fun.|||Lol that was the funniest thing I%26#039;ve ever heard.

There are people in my club that are even 50-60 years old.

And your only 14!! No!

It%26#039;s funny how you said that most people start at a young age. It is true to a certain extent, but there are far more people who start studying martial arts in their teens than people younger than 10.

Good luck and train hard!|||You are not too old to do anything you put your mind and effort into. I started when I was 15.

Maybe think about it this way. If you train hard every day for 1 week, (just for example%26#039;s sake), you%26#039;ve already trained 7 days. Now consider someone who started when they were 9, but only trains once a week. In one week you%26#039;ve already caught up and probably exceeded the skills of that kid%26#039;s 2 months worth of %26quot;effort%26quot;.

Martial arts is for you, not anyone else. It doesn%26#039;t matter if your 14 or 92. Have at it!|||No it isn%26#039;t too late. Your age is actually pretty good because you can comprehend what the instructor is telling you to do. That and you attention span is there haha.

Well one thing is that you want to get really good. That%26#039;s the idea. You have to try your very best. If you put 20% energy into it, you%26#039;ll get 20% benefit out. Thus if you put 100% into it, you%26#039;ll get 100% out.|||not late at all, do you know Rich Franklin (mma fighter) he was a teacher and started training at 28, and now he is one of the top UFC fighters and a former champ.|||im also 14 and have recently started BJJ to start fighting in mma. so no, you are at the perfect age to start training. so go ahead.

good luck training.|||i%26#039;m 53 years old and have my second degree brown belt. i am hoping to test for my black belt this fall. i started when i was about 45. no way are you too old.|||No, I started at 15. Its actually better if you start around this age as you can appreciate the art more and train harder.|||It is never to late. It is only late if you consider it to be.|||no, its not too late.

I started when i was 16 and my mom started when she was 40.

better to start now and keep healthy!|||It is never too late to start martial arts, despite what anybody tells you.|||14 is a good age to start.|||no, not too late.

i know there%26#039;s martial art school that have rule to accept new student with minimal 15 years old.|||absolutely not. some UFC fighters started when they were 20+ years old and they still kick a**!
