Martial Arts?

I have a choice of different martial arts to take. Which do I choose? I am looking for something that will get me in shape AND good self defense.

These are the choices:

Taekwondo

Freestyle Karate

Wing Chun

Jiu- Jitsu

Shotokan Karate

BJJ|||I%26#039;ve seen some bad boys in every art you named. Each art you named will get you in great shape. Remember, not every fight ends up on the ground. You can study ground fighting techniques for 20 years and think you%26#039;ve got that mastered but get into a scrap and take it to the ground and what could happen? The guys buddy%26#039;s start kicking the crap out of you. Each art has major strengths but they all have weaknesses that can get you in trouble. You need a complete arsenal.

Of note, tae kwon do uses their hands far more than most people realize so you will be a very good striker/blocker. Depending on the background of the karate instructor, you could learn some very good fighting skills. Wing chun surprised me the most because their technique was flawless. Solid joint locking techniques mixed with pinpoint accurate strikes...could%26#039;ve been a product of an excellent instructor so keep that in mind before making a decision.

For the best guess of the schools you consider, watch a few classes and specifically watch a few students who have been there for about a year. If their technique is sloppy, walk. If they could handle one opponent pretty good, consider it. If they could beat the h*ll out of an opponent in less than 30 seconds, join.

Emphasizes on watching %26quot;a few students%26quot; (not just one guy) who have been at that particular school for about a year.|||Tae Kwon Do i%26#039;ve been doing for 2 years and have excelled at it|||http://www.squidoo.com/MartialArts101

all you need to know|||SHOTOKAN OR GOJU RYU WILL DO THE JOB.|||Your best choice would have to BJJ simply because most fights end up on the ground. Choosing to engage primarily in a striking art would make you susceptible to submissions once you are taken down to the ground either by accident or design. But be sure to choose an academy that specializes in self defense rather than pure sport jiu jitsu since you will learn a variety of techniques that pertain to the wild and chaotic nature of street fights. Believe me, I have studied this art for 6 years and it has helped me survive numerous street conflicts ranging from simple confrontations to knife wielding assailants! BJJ is the way to go!|||Taekwondo definedtly!

i took it for 4 and a half years and im a girl!

i am tough confident and in great shape......i promise Taekwondo is the one to pick|||What are the costs of training in each Dojo? How nice are the people in each Dojo? Is the instructor willing to help you learn his art or is he trying to scam you out of a lot of money?

1. Don%26#039;t sign any contracts

2. try to get a feel for the instructors personality. Do you click?

3. Is this Dojo training for the ring, the street, trophies, or just to make a buck.

4. How organized is the instructor? does this guy have his act together or is he a flake?

Think about these things to make your decision.

The system really doesn%26#039;t matter its the individual that makes it great.

Good luck
