Why are boxers bragging around that martial arts suck well in fact boxing IS A MARTIAL ART?

Why do they keep saying this well in fact they don`t know anything about martial arts except what they see in movies and TV?Why are they saying this well in fact they only think martial arts come from ASIA(DESPITE THE FACT THAT EVERY CULTURE HAS ONE)?And why are they saying that martial arts suck well in fact BOXING IS A MARTIAL ART?What is up with this?|||Think of the tomato.

Most people, like you said, relation martial arts to those from the Orient, or those from other places that mimic the martial arts from the Orient (i.e. punching, kicking, throwing, weapons, etc.)

So while technically, boxing is a form of martial art. That definitely doesn%26#039;t hold true in common day usage.

Just like a tomato is technically a fruit. Everybody pretty much considers it a vegetable because in common day usage, it mimics a vegetable and not a fruit (it%26#039;s not sweet and you don%26#039;t put it in cereal or yogurt)|||Because martial arts does suck!

This is my deffenition of marital arts= anything where you use your legs to kick.

I was raised knowing that men fight with there hands, and women only kick

Some years back, my friend, a pro. boxer had a match with a kick-boxer in vegas. My friend tore him a new one. But he did get a lot of scraches.

So boxing is a true sport, and ufc is just bum fights|||Icequeen...........

Mike Tyson in his prime against Bruce Lee in his prime in UFC rules in the octagon???

Mike Tyson: 6%26#039; tall, 221 lbs.

Bruce Lee: 5%26#039; 7.5%26quot;, 166 lbs.

I would give you a hundred to one on Bruce Lee, Tyson would destroy him.

Tyson and Randy Couture, I would still give the edge to Tyson.

PS- Bruce Lee was a boxing champion in 1958..........

..|||Because mixed martial arts is becoming more popular than standard boxing...they%26#039;re scared of gettin the bleep beaten out of them by talented UFC fighters!!|||I think its street fighters who mainly say this kind of crap. Put a good martial arts expert against a good boxer and I know who I would bet on. It winds me up when I hear Mike tyson could of easily beaten Bruce lee cos he is bigger what a load of tosh would not of taken him on though would he ? nooooooooooo

EDIT: Muddypup Your talking s hite Tyson would of been too slow to of got a punch in. Speed any time against size fact!!

EDIT You got it Johnny|||First off, martials arts don%26#039;t suck. They are the basic and make up components of the complete fighter.

Also, the definition of martial art is a METHOD or TECHNIQUE that allows you to beat someone bigger, stronger, or faster than you. Boxing is TECHNICALLY not a martial art since trading punches will never allow you to beat someone bigger/stronger unless you hit harder than they do.

However, boxing does make you a MORE complete fighter since it teaches skills that many other so-called martial arts neglect.

As for people being ill-informed it%26#039;s because all they know about martial art has been from a television. The slightly more informed people know about martial arts by watching UFC. The real martial artists are the ones that have trained with real world masters. Nothing more and nothing less.

Oh yea...quick note... Bruce Lee would beat Tyson quite easily. He knew far more fighting methods, is DEFINITELY faster, and DEFINITELY more skillful in every single way. Bruce Lee would chop his knee and drown him on the ground before a punch ever got off. But you don%26#039;t need me to tell you that; go to a real gym and talk to world masters who have trained as a boxer and met Bruce Lee.|||those are stupid boxers!|||they keep saying it bcuz they havnt lost to any martial artist one on one...90% of world martial arts can kick boxings ***|||its because boxing is a well astablished SPORT and the likes of you are trying desperately to make your mickey mouse effort credible.come back in 5 years and ask the same question when your pastime is a distant memory..prick|||Ali/Inoko fight years back had lesson for boxers- don%26#039;t fight when you can%26#039;t stand and move. Next lesson for boxers is balance their hand moves with leg moves and awareness. A boxer trains under set rules that don%26#039;t consider lower body a target normally - he learns to punch well and use upper body and in self defense this is a fairly good martial art for street. The problem with boxing only training is again its lack of leg awareness. A western boxer who also does western wrestling will be a better balanced fighter on street and can compete in mixed tournaments effectively after they learn to protect lower part of body. I had a former junior boxer in a Tae Kwon Do training session that didn%26#039;t think old crock could touch him and his fast hands- didn%26#039;t need to have on groin cup, learned that Chinese style back kick to groin disrupts hand combinations to head area. Whimpered a few minutes while on floor. He did learn to watch low after second kick incident, even made it 1/2 way through open rules tournament
