What's a good book or DVD to teach myself kickboxing or a martial arts?

What%26#039;s a good book or DVD to teach myself kickboxing (or some style of martial arts)? Unfortunately, I don%26#039;t have the funds or time to join a gym. Mainly, I would like to get in fighting shape (without actually becoming a fighter). I%26#039;d also like to learn enough for self defense purposes.|||Martial arts is ALL about the time you spend so if your looking to cut corners, you will be disappointed in the end.

I think books/DVDs are great supplements to regular training. Without a teacher and partners to spar/point out your flaws, your fighting skill doesn%26#039;t grow as much as it should. In my own experience motivation can sometimes come and go so it%26#039;s good to have someone else around to motivate you when your not feeling up to it.

If fitness is your primary goal you will probably be looking at diet and exercises and that is something you can google but it%26#039;s better to ask for advice from a fitness professional.

With that said, a couple books that I found to be very interesting are:

US Army Combatives FM 21-150

US Marine Corp. Close Combat manual|||Razor Rob McCullough%26#039;s Muay Thai DVD is a well put together DVD, it will teach basic feet work, form, and combo%26#039;s. his instructions are as good as any coach%26#039;s. but if you want self defense you will need a sparing partner, which is the best way to hone in on your speed, combos, and striking Skills.

Eddie Bravo Jiu Jitsu Books are also another great at home workout. his books are filled with pictures and detailed description of each move. but again, its best to have a friend of partner to go through this book with you to sharpen and master the techniques and to get real life experience |||YOULL NEVER LEARN A MARTIAL ART FROM A DVD YOU NEED INSTRUCTION FROM A SIFU OR A PRACTICIONER. I KNOW WHAT BEING BROKE IS ALL ABOUT SO IF YOU REALLY WOULD LIKE TO LEARN YOU SHOULD ASK A STUDENT FROM SCHOOL TO TEACH YOU HIS MARTIAL ART. A STUDENT SHOULD ENJOY DOING SO BECAUSE IT GIVES THEM MORE PRACTICE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THEIR ART. TELL YOUR MONEY SITUATION TO A TEACHER OR A STUDENT THEY WILL MOST LIKELY TEACH YOU FOR FREE IF THEY BELIEVE YOU TO BE A SERIOUS STUDENT. |||im sorry. you really cant just teach yourself martial arts. you need a sensei because you may not realize that you are doing something completely wrong and if you try to use something in a situation it might get you or someone seriously hurt....|||If I may, go to this page through the link below. scroll down to the bottom. There%26#039;s a carousel widget that features martial arts books and video. Jeet Kune Do would be a good art to start with.|||You can learn a good form from a DVD but without some one to practice with, you won%26#039;t be able to defend yourself.|||I would suggest you to visit http://www.iBluRayRental.com for further help . You will get all the stuff you desire, good luck.|||Gilade, it works great
