Martial Arts?

I am looking to get into martial arts ... I am 18/m/LA ... I want to get into something serious, not the kiddie stuff ... physically I am in good shape with a build... what do you suggest? Are there any places you know of around Burbank and LA that are any good?|||First, decide if you%26#039;re mature enough to handle serious martial arts. Many forms of martial arts are derived from a religion. They are a form of discipline more than a way to beat someone up - be prepared for that. I studied Isshyn Ryu, an Okinawan form of Karate. Very straight forward, lots of striking, great discipline. Judo is a great foundation for MMA stuff, because it is all leverage and takedowns. Aikido is what Segal studies - it teaches you how to use the opponent%26#039;s motion against them, it%26#039;s powerful stuff. Be smart about it, if you commit to it, follow through and let it guide you in life.|||I am in Burbank.

Until Benny opens a new place,(his nearly new place was bulldozed when the land was sold to developers),the place to check out is %26quot;House of Champions%26quot;.

I have not been there nor checked it out,I only know that with %26quot;Ten Goose%26quot; Boxing,Ryu Dojo, and Benny%26#039;s place gone a good many people train there.

(Bill Ryusaki teaches there)|||do everything ski suggest, its the smartest and most honest answer, i would reiterate, discipline of mind and body, its how exhibitionist go through all that ice , concrete boards, and etc, its a pure mind discipline with physical fitness to the max, good luck but dont go in thinking youll be a bad a**, you may never use it, until the time comes when you have no alternative out|||If you want to be a striker do:

1) Muay Thai- crushing elbows and devastating knees. A must in a real fight...

2) Boxing- the 2nd best option to Muay Thai...

If you want to be a grappler:

1) Shoot Wrestling- a nice foundation for those who haven%26#039;t experienced wrestling in HS/Colleges...

2) Brazillian Jiu Jitsu- lots of chokes, joint manipulations, etc. A good martial art for those who are not physically strong...
