What style of martial arts class should I take?

I%26#039;d like to know a style that is common. I don%26#039;t like how you have to punch your opponent so much in karate and a defensive type of martial arts would be nice, or something that involves getting my opponent into a headlock, or submission.. BASICALLY, SOMETHING WITH LOTS OF BLOCKING AND LITTLE DIRECT ATTACKING.|||bjj (brazilian jui jitsu) is a very effective martial art! it is mostly all ground work. you will learn how to take your opponent to the ground, use his strenghts for ur use. u will also learn chokes and positions that make ur opponent uncomfortable

or

judo

flipping, tripping, throwing and groundwork|||If you are looking to compete, get in shape or just have some fun a combination of Muay-Thai and BJJ is the way to go. Nothing else really compares in my opinion to get you conditioned. Krav Maga would also be an excellent style to add once your conditioning improves.

Defensive training alone will not help you. Blocking a kick or punch successfully could still do a lot of damage to you. As an example trying to block a Muay-Thai practitioners kick could still drop you, perhaps even fracturing your forearms, shins, ribs, etc.... One kick to the shin and you%26#039;re out. Get someone to swing a broomstick at your shins and forearms at 30-50% power you will see what I mean.

Muay-Thai and BJJ fighters are conditioned to fight for long periods of time, beyond the point of exhaustion and trained to take numerous hits to the body and head.

Don%26#039;t waste your time and money. Do not take any martial art that does not have an extensive conditioning program.

Just my opinion here but many cannot dispute what I%26#039;m saying either.|||in order to be a well rounded fighter or be able to have an effective self defense system you must be versed in all aspects of fighting. as for if your looking for a submission art i would go with Brazilian jiu jitsu, judo, ect. they are ground fighting arts, but you will not necessarily want to go to the ground in a street fight your opponent may have friends that will help him, i would train in a kickboxing art, and brazilian jiu jitsu.|||Japanese ju-jitsu.

I%26#039;d suggest

As it%26#039;s an all rounder and covers all areas of fighting.

Best wishes :)***|||Best thing is to see what type of schools are in your area. go to them and when the class is in session. and then speak to the instructors and ask them your questions and concerns.|||Aikido, its not a competitive art like BJJ or karate but stunning at using other people strength/motion against them.

Any blows used in it are merely to set the person up for locks throws etc.|||Is this a joke.........Were you looking for the answer Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

As a bjj guy from the Ufc said after he won his last fight. %26quot;see, You can win the fight with out hurting your opponent%26quot;.|||perhaps try aikido. not specifically blocking but more redirection.|||easy, take eughe rue. thts wat i take (srry i cant spell it right) its pronounced oo-shey-roo its a lot of blocking and technique, but not too much direct fighting =]
